Andy Knight BA (Hons) FDir FIRSE- Managing Director
Andy joined the Company as Operations Director in June 2001. He became Managing Director in July 2003. Andy has an excellent track record in delivering tailored training and development projects. He is a highly skilled Signalling Engineer with 37 years experience in the railway industry. Proven experience in Design, Implementation and Management of training and competence schemes. He is a training professional with expert communications and organisational skills and a proven ability to work at a strategic level. Andy is a Chartered Director, he has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Studies. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineer, and is registered as Engineering Technician with Engineering Council.
Reuben Dakin BA(Hons) CEng MIEE MIRSE - Technical Director
Reuben joined the Company as Technical Director in February 2002. A skilled signalling engineer with experience in the Signalling Principles, Competence Assurance, Maintenance and Project Management. Reuben is a training professional with the ability to identify training needs, specify, develop and deliver training suitable for a wide range of the industry. Experienced in designing and implementing appropriate assessment methods and systems. Reuben is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Member of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers, has an Honours Degree in Electrical and Information Science, Assessors Award – A1, C&G award 7331 (Training Techniques), Member of the Institute of Directors.
Dr. John Penney BSc(Eng) PhD CEng FIET FIRSE - Chairman
Dr. John Penney took the Appointment as Chairman to help take the Company forward in 2004.
John joined the railway industry 20 years ago after a career managing companies in telecommunications and computers. His first role was as Managing Director of Alstom Signalling in the UK, where he was totally responsible for the UK signalling business and also a number of international projects. During privatisation of BR, he master minded the acquisition of the largest of the UK maintenance units and became its Chairman. Later he moved to Alstoms head office in Paris, where he was responsible for all international signalling business development.In this role he acquired Sasib in Italy and GRS in the USA. Following these acquisitions he managed the integration of these companies into Alstoms worldwide signalling business. Since leaving Alstom he has held a number of senior roles in the UK signalling business and undertaken a series of strategic reviews for major international corporations.
John's experience enhances the business with his professional, technical and commercial skills.
Brian Cookson - Senior Training Consultant
Brian has joined the team in March 2014. He is an experienced trainer and bringing over 34 years Railway experience to enhance the Signet Team working in the Industry as a Locking Fitter, Senior Technician, Installer, Cable jointer and going on to become a Trainer for the last 17 years. Brian has been involved with the development of training modules for Network Rail and he has developed his training delivery portfolio with a wide range of testing, maintenance and installation courses. Brian has also been involved in the development of training centres and therefore provides experience in the provision of training facilities that provide interactive training opportunities for delegates.
Paul Morris - OBE MSc BSc - Associate Consultant
Paul joined the Company as an Associate Consultant in December 2007. An experienced training establishment manager, has well developed team skills both in the military and civilian spheres and railway engineering. Competent as a qualified teacher, apprentice mentor, post graduate lecturer, and as an academic registrar. Designed, bought, introduced and managed new and innovative training and education solutions; culminating in the “best practice” award from the Defence Training Review for work with Undergraduates at Southampton University, for which he received the OBE in 2003. Paul has a BSc. Applied Physics (Honours), Qualified secondary school Teacher, Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Reactor Technology,MSc Nuclear Reactor Technology, RN Instructional Training Assessor, Qualified Nuclear Submarine Engineer, Qualified Steam Locomotive Driver (5 inch gauge).
John Steatham - Associate Consultant
John became part of the Signet Team in March 2013 as an Associate Consultant. His wealth of knowledge and experience in the Industry is a great asset to the portfolio of Signet Solutions' courses. He is a qualified Teacher and has been a Technical Trainer within the Railway Industry for many of years. He has delivered and developed a wealth of training courses including Basic Signalling, Electrical Installation, Point Machine courses, SMTH, Cable Jointing, Track Circuitry, Route Relay Interlocking, Correlation, SPWEE, Wrong-side Failure Investigation as well as a range of Signal Works Testing Modules.
Bob McNair - Associate Consultant
Bob has extensive experience in training and developing a wide variety of students from differing backgrounds and levels of competence. He has comprehensive knowledge of several training methods and has recently been successful in attaining a Level 4 Training and Development qualification. He has vast experience of coaching on a one-to-one level and has excellent communication skills both oral and written at all levels and a proven track record of working under own initiative as an individual and as part of a team.
Mick Sawyer - Associate Consultant
A highly skilled signalling engineer with proven experience in the Testing and Commissioning of signalling equipment. Training professional with expert communications and organisational skills who has helped to design and implement a number of training modules across the range of Signal Engineering.

Simon WeatherIll - Associate Consultant
A highly skilled signalling engineer with proven experience in the Railway industry. Training professional with expert communications and organisational skills who has delivered many of our course modules across the range of Signal Engineering. Simon works as an Associate for Signet whilst also developing his own Signalling Company.
