Jonathan Tillin FIRSE Assoc CIPD
Jon has worked in the rail industry as a testing engineer and training consultant since 1966. He is an IRSE licensed TIC and Principles Tester. Jon learned his testing skills whilst in the Reading Drawing Office of BR(WR). He subsequently was involved in a number of major commissionings either as TIC or Principles Tester. A period as Signalling Maintenance Engineer was enjoyed in the 1980s.
Following the Hidden Report he undertook to lead the development and roll-out of the national testing training interventions in the UK. He was part of the core team that developed the UK Signalling Works Testing Handbook and authored the Railway Group Standard and Network Rail Company Standards for signalling testing. He served on the IRSE Licensing scheme committee for a number of years and led the definition phase for the revised license categories in 2002.
Jon has held positions as HQ (Projects) Testing Engineer for the British Railways Board, and Standards and Qualifications Manager for Railtrack (Major Projects Division). He founded Signet Solutions in 1996.
Jon is intimately involved in the introduction of new technology into the UK. He has worked on Channel Tunnel cab-signalling (Class 92 commissioning) and CTRL; and currently is contracted to Network Rail as a Testing and Commissioning Engineer under West Coast Engineering (WCE). Within WCE he has overall responsibility, on behalf of Network Rail, for the cross-discipline entry-into-service of the West Coast upgrade works in the North West.
