Who Should Attend This Course?

This course is intended for delegates who will be required to undertake the role of Test Assistant. It will provide them with the underpinning knowledge and practical ability that will be required in this role and make sure they are aware of the equipment that will be used and what will be expected of them.

Course Content and Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, the delegate will be able to:

Describe the duties and responsibilities of a Test Assistant
Identify items of signalling equipment
Identify the state of a relay
Undertake inspection and counting of wires
Assist with the testing of location internal circuits
Perform Busbar Earth tests
Assist with cable continuity and insulation testing
Apply and remove Test Straps and False Feeds in a safe manner
Assist with the testing of signals, AWS, TPWS, track circuits and points
Use Solid State Interlocking Test Equipment
Operate a Test desk
Report from a signaller's panel

Requirements

A well-prepared delegate is expected to be familiar with common items of railway signalling equipment, as found on the trackside and in locations. Otherwise, you will have difficulty following the course. We recommend that newcomers to the industry attend our 'Introduction to Signalling - BS1 and 2' course to reach this starting point.
